Vatican tells nuns to limit time on social media or risk being ‘distracted by noises and news’ 


The Vatican has told nuns to limit time spent poring over social media so they are no longer distracted by “noises, news and words”.

A legislative document, published by Rome’s office for religious life, highlights concerns that social media “in all the variety in which it is presented today”, is taking its toll on the virtues of “recollection and contemplative silence” while in the cloisters, the Guardian reports.

It states: “These means must therefore be used with sobriety and discretion, not only with regard to the contents but also to the quantity of information and the type of communication”.
