Twitter has provoked an outcry after blocking bisexual searches, days after it updated rules on adult material.
Users searching the word “bisexual” or the #bisexual hashtag found a message saying “No results for bisexual” when they tried to open the images, videos or news tabs of their search results.
It was accused of “erasing” material from bisexual people on the social network, with users pointing out that searches for gay and lesbian material still produced results.
Twitter apologised for the change, calling it an “error” and promised to quickly fix it, although on Monday morning the searches were still being censored.
Last week, Twitter updated its rules around how it deals with content such as pornography, although it insisted that it was only clarifying the guidelines, not changing them. It is unclear if blocking bisexual searches is related.
